Gianna Colón-Castro, is an exceptional student at the University of Pittsburgh, whose educational journey is marked by dedication, cultural enrichment, and a commitment to making a difference. Originating from the island of Puerto Rico, Gianna brings a unique perspective to her studies as she pursues a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology along with a Global Studies Certificate. Beyond her academic pursuits, Gianna's compassion extends to the realm of animal welfare. With aspirations of attending Veterinary School, she is driven by a profound love for animals and a desire to make their lives better. Remarkably, she has seamlessly integrated this passion into her research work with Professor Tormos Aponte. Gianna's dedication to understanding the challenges faced by street animals in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria has added a crucial layer of awareness to the study, underlining her commitment to social responsibility and positive change.
