Javier A. Nieves Torres (He/They) is an independent energy historian who studies the history of Puerto Rico’s energy transitions. He completed a BA in History from the University of Puerto Rico’s Mayaguez campus in 2019. Since then, they have worked as translator, research assistant and graduate course instructor with various universities such as the University of Minnesota, Northwestern University, and Northeastern University. Currently, Javier is working as a research assistant with the Public Health Disaster Research Award Program from University of Colorado, Boulder’s National Hazard Center. The project aims to deliver an instrument that communities and agencies can use to identify and effectively distribute resources before, during and after disasters.
Research interests include energy governance, public policy, and gender studies.
