Dr. Mary Angelica Painter is a postdoctoral research associate for the Natural Hazards Center (NHC) at the University of Colorado Boulder. Her research interests include understanding and developing new approaches to understanding social vulnerability in the context of natural hazards, while also incorporating the effect of the role of government, policy, and politics in disaster preparedness and response. Dr. Painter’s work focuses on the root causes of social vulnerability and how to address those issues in several geographic areas, including Puerto Rico and the U.S. Midwest. She seeks to develop and advance solutions that mitigate the harms of natural hazards and climate change before disaster strikes.
